Heather Cornell (New York, USA) Contemporary tap A master teacher, artistic director and choreographer of Manhattan Tap one of the leading tap ensembles in New York for many years. Ms Cornell has been credited with pioneering a new style of tap choreography for the concert stage. She has been featured in shows with many of her mentors: Charles "Cookie" Cook, James "Buster" Brown, Chuck Green and Eddie Brown and has also worked with Jimmy Slyde, Honi Coles and Gregory Hines among others. Ms. Cornell collaborates regularly with musicians from the jazz and world music scene, including the renowned bassist Ray Brown who has also been a guest performer at jazz festivals in Finland. Dancers with "Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk", "Cool Heat Urban Beat", "Tap Dogs" and "Stomp" have studied in her professional training program. Ms. Cornell was a very popular teacher at our festival last year. She will expand your view of tap dancing. She often accompanies her own classes on the drum. Ms. Cornell will teach a couple of choreography classes where you will use drumsticks (extra charge for these classes). Ms. Cornell's performances are visual music, as demonstrated by her breathtakingly smooth performance last year accompanied by the renowned Finnish Jarmo Savolainen Trio. |
